Except for the lower jaw, preorbital bone and branchial lid, the whole body is covered with tiny round scales. The back and sides are grayish brown with irregular black stripes, and the chest and abdomen are grayish white. The dorsal fin is black and yellow, and the other fins are gray and black. The back edge of the head is low, and there are spikes at the back end. Big eyes, high position, wide and flat spacing. The whole body is grayish brown and the abdomen is shallow. The lateral line is obvious, extending from head to tail. Warm bottom fish can reach more than 300 mm.

Fish are common in the coastal areas east of Leizhou Peninsula in China. It is distributed in the north of Taiping, but not in the west. China's South China Sea, East China Sea, Yellow Sea, Bohai Sea, Japan and South Korea inhabit the bottom waters of offshore rocks. Young fish float, lay eggs and have unknown living habits, so they can be used as ornamental fish.
