Prunes are an autumn fruit.
my country’s prunes generally grow and mature in the autumn. August-September is the time when domestic prunes are on the market. At this time, the prunes are plump and juicy. With the introduction of greenhouse technology, fresh prunes can be eaten all year round. However, according to the maturity time of prunes, March, August and September are the times when prunes mature in batches. The quality of prunes during this period is usually better. Well, the price/performance ratio will also be higher.
Prunes originate from southwest France, also known as California prunes. They have a crisp and refreshing taste, and their appearance is very similar to apricot plums. There are currently four main varieties of prunes, namely: red prunes, blue honey prunes, French prunes and goddess prunes. Blue honey prunes are generally available on the market at the end of August, while goddess prunes are later and have to wait until September. Ripe in mid-month.
Prunes are grown in California, southwestern France, and southern China. Its main producing areas in my country are Zhili Town, Huzhou, Zhejiang, Xinjiang and other regions.
Selection of prunes:
1. Soft and hard to the touch: Although mature prunes will be soft, they are different from spoiled prunes. Juice will ooze out when touched.
2. Look at the appearance: high-quality prunes have a plump appearance, but if there are dark spots or black ulcers on the skin of the prunes, it proves that they have rotted and deteriorated, so do not buy them.
3. Surface fruit powder: There will be a layer of fruit powder on the outer skin of the prunes. If the fruit powder is relatively dense, it means that the prunes are fresh. However, if there is no fruit powder on the surface of the prunes or is very good, it means that the prunes are fresh. Plums are no longer fresh, so it is best not to buy them.
4. Smell: Normal prunes will not smell like anything, but if you smell sourness or alcohol, it means that the prunes have become rotten.
