What are the early symptoms of pancreatic cancer?
Many pancreatic cancer patients have no symptoms in the early stage, even if there are some symptoms, they are not specific. For example, patients may have weight loss and abdominal pain, which is a persistent dull pain radiating to the lower back. If these symptoms are present, further investigations are needed. An ultrasound of the upper abdomen or a CT of the upper abdomen can be done to rule out pancreatic cancer. In the early stages of pancreatic cancer, in addition to weight loss and abdominal pain, jaundice due to bile duct obstruction can occur, and a small percentage of patients with this variant can develop jaundice at a very early stage. The most typical symptom of advanced pancreatic cancer is abdominal pain, which manifests as persistent and limited pain in the middle and upper abdomen and back. Many patients with advanced pancreatic cancer have biliary obstruction, jaundice is also a very common symptom.
