The three poorest cities in Hubei are Huanggang, Jingzhou and Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
Huanggang, prefecture-level city in Hubei Province, located in the eastern part of Hubei Province, the southern foot of the Dabie Mountains, the north bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and the middle section of the Beijing-Kowloon Railway; gradually tilted from the north to the south, and the northeastern part of the Dabie Mountains with the junction of the Yu and Anhui provinces; seven counties under the jurisdiction of seven counties, two municipalities, and two districts (including the Longshenghu county-level management area); a total area of 17,453 square kilometers; and the city's total population in 2018 was 7.5 million.

Huanggang is located at the junction of Chu, Wu, and four provinces of Hubei, Henan, Anhui, and Jiangxi, and is connected with the provincial capital of Wuhan, which is an important part of the Wuhan City Circle.On December 15, 2017, it was awarded as one of the top ten charming cities.On December 7, 2018, it was awarded as the "Charming City of the Year of Culture and Tourism for Poverty Alleviation." on March 26, 2019, it was awarded as the "National Charming City of Cultural Tourism for Poverty Alleviation". On March 26, 2019, Huanggang was honored as "National Positive Energy City".
