Whenever the sun set in the western hills, she rocked the boat to the island, climbed to the highest peak of the island, looked out at the vast South China Sea and prayed for her husband's safe return.

One day later, Jou-gu found an old man in Hainan's Hefa childhood on the island and saved him with chicken soup. The next day, after Jou-gu went to the island, she found that the old man had mysteriously disappeared. Coincidentally, a few days later, Jou-gu's husband returned safely from the sky and Man Cang was on board. After the news spread, people all thought that the old man was the incarnation of God, who could protect the sea and make fishing more productive. From then on, fishermen put a chicken on the island every time they went out to sea for fishing, in order to pray for a safe sea route and fish and shrimp in Man Cang. The name of Fangji Island comes from this.

Second: It is recorded that in the second year of Emperor Taizong (848), Li Deyu, the prime minister, was demoted as a steward of Cliff State. On his way to his post, he sailed through the island and berthed on the island to get fresh water. Later, a stone tablet was set up to describe the danger of the island and the outline of its demotion. Later generations regarded him as a god and built a temple to commemorate it. The seagoing ship must go to the island to sacrifice, and put a chicken in the mountain to show the meaning of releasing it, hence the name of "Chicken Island".

Third: Legend has it that in ancient times, there were dense forests on the island, and a large group of phoenix chickens lived in the forests. Whenever the rising sun came out and the sun shone everywhere, the golden phoenix spread its wings and attracted its neck to sing, and coastal fishermen set sail against the rising sun, cast nets and fished, and lived a happy life. Later, I don't know when it started, but there were no chickens crowing on the island, but the turbid waves on the ocean were emptied. Fishing boats are afraid to go out to sea, and passing ships sometimes capsize and kill people. Later, a Taoist pointed out that a fox came to the island, stole all the chickens, and often made waves at sea, hurting countless fishermen and past merchants. However, if a temple is built on the island, the goddess of heaven is worshipped and chickens are set free, so that peace can be guaranteed. Fishermen in the nearby coastal areas listened to the Taoist priest and donated money to build the temple. After the temple was built, every household went to burn incense and worship God, and kept raw chickens on the island. All navigators who pass through this place will also enter the temple to offer incense and release live chickens. Therefore, this island has the name of Fangji Island, and it is also known as Phoenix Island.

Fourth: Fangji Island was originally named as Wanzhou Island. It is said that a long time ago, fishing boats along the coast had to pass through Wanzhou Island for fishing. Every time they passed through this island, the waves were particularly rough, and ships were often submerged by the waves, which brought a lot of troubles to local fishermen. Until one day, a monk passed by this fishing village. He found that there were rough waves around Bay Island, and waves were attacking ships like white centipedes, while Bay Island looked like a cock from the fishing village. So the monk told the fishermen that Mazu, the sea god, should be worshipped on Bay Island, and some cocks could be released to solve the big waves, because cocks could restrain centipedes. The fishermen thought it was reasonable, so they offered an ancient temple of Bay Boat on Bay Boat Island according to the monk's meaning and released some cocks. Releasing cocks originally meant to accumulate virtue in Buddhism. Since Wanzhou Island provided the ancient temple of Wanzhou and released roosters, it has been calm. Fishermen think that the monk's method is very clever, so every time fishermen go out to sea, they will release some roosters to accumulate virtue, which will also ensure the fishermen's safety at sea. Slowly formed the saying of Fangji Island, and some people called Fangji Island.
