"Sleuth Wars" is based on real events.
"The War of the Sleuths" is based on 12 real cases in Hong Kong, including the Butcher Case, the Rainy Night Murder Case, the Temple Street Flying Corpse Case, the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter Cooking Corpse Case, the Devil's Police Case, the Wong Kong Bus Bloodshed, the Burnt Corpse Case in Cheung Sha Wan, the Hong Kong United Dockyard Case, and so on.
The story is about a criminal gang under the name of "Sleuths" that plunges Hong Kong into a state of endless fear. Each of these cases is a blast, giving the movie a unique texture and an even more gruesome atmosphere.
Plot Characteristics
The title of this movie may have come from the classic 2007 Hong Kong cop movie "The Detective". At the time, Johnnie To's unity with Wei was the same sublime concept of multiple personalities, the same reversal of the surrounding villains, and the same crazy "detective" played by Lau.
The difference is that these two movies have completely different spiritual temperament. The Detective is meaningful and unique and easy to recoup, while The Detective Wars is free and clear of insanity, and it's all over the place.
