On February 8, 2005, Sudan Red 1, which was banned by the European Union, was found in the products of Britain's largest food manufacturer, and more than 500 kinds of food were removed from the shelves.
On February 23rd, 2005, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued an urgent notice, requesting local quality inspection departments to strengthen the inspection and supervision of foods containing "Sudan Red 1" to prevent foods containing "Sudan Red 1" from entering the China market.
On March 4th, 2005, Beijing authorities detected "Sudan Red 1" from Heinz Chili sauce. Soon, the "Tantan Township Pepper Radish" produced by Hunan Changsha Tantanxiang Seasoning Food Co., Ltd. was also found to contain "Sudan Red 1".
On March 5, 2005, the ingredient "Sudan Red 1" was found in the seasoning of KFC's roasted wing in New Orleans and roasted chicken leg fort in New Orleans. A few days later, in the special food law enforcement inspection, the relevant departments in Beijing once again found that the "spicy marinated powder" used by KFC in the three products of "spicy chicken leg fort", "spicy chicken wings" and "popcorn" contained "Sudan Red No.1".
