On February 5, 1951, Li Yutang and his wife, Chen Bolan, were escorted together to the Bitan execution ground in Taipei for execution. After arriving in Hsinchu, Taiwan with the remnants of his troops, Li Yutang was once again removed from his military post. After that, his wife, Chen Bolan, was arrested because of her connections with the C*** underground party. According to the recollection of Li Yutang's former subordinate, Hu Linting (former deputy commander of the guard battalion of the 255th Division of the 32nd Army), Li's arrest was mainly due to the exposure of Li Gang, the aide-de-camp of Li Yutang, who was engaged in counter-insurgency.

Li Gang was arrested and tortured, however, explained that Li Yutang's wife and brother Chen Shiqing from Hong Kong to Hainan to turn Li Yutang. And Li Yutang, upon learning of Li Gang's arrest, immediately wrote a letter to Chen Shiqing, who was working in Kaohsiung, asking him to run for his life. The letter turned out to be intercepted by Secret Service agents, and Li Yutang was arrested as a result.

The presiding judge in the case, Qian Dajun, after investigation, concluded that Li had no knowledge of his wife's comm****ion, and sentenced Li Yutang to seven years in prison, which was then increased to 15 years, in accordance with Article 9 of the Regulations on Prosecution and Purge of Bandits and Spies during Counterinsurgency Periods, which provides for the failure to report on the knowledge of bandits.

Regrettably, when Jiang Zhongzheng approved the verdict, he personally approved a "shame" on the verdict, so the famous anti-Japanese general who had received the Medal of the White Sun in Heaven was thus decided on his final fate.
