I recently watched a horror movie called Invasion of the Wireworms, it was so disgusting, can wireworms parasitize people in reality?
The wireworm is a real life parasite, but its hosts are mainly insects such as praying mantis, crickets, cockroaches, spiders, etc. Among them, praying mantis is the most parasitized by the wireworm, and the parasitized praying mantis is not sure if it will keep drinking water like in the movie, but the wireworm absorbs the nutrients from the praying mantis, making its body a few times bigger than the host's own, and then when it comes to the reproduction stage, it will eat all of the internal organs, leaving only the brain, and the wireworm will eat the brain, so it will be a little bit bigger. In order to leave more space (because sometimes there are 2-3 parasites at the same time), the worm also eats all the mantis' internal organs, leaving only the brain. The worm then uses a mysterious substance to stimulate the mantis' brain to reach the water source, but the mantis' brain is very inferior, and sometimes it can't find the source, so the mantis then struggles to get out of its body and comes out of its anus... And people can be parasitized, but not as badly as in the movie, just some illness, discomfort, insecticides (according to the doctor), but no side effects like in the movie... But if in the future the biological system changes, the wireworms could evolve like in the movie, but the people would evolve too... And for a long, long time (unless someone genetically mutated the worm like in the movie, which is possible) but for now it's safe, as long as you don't drink dirty water, swim in dirty rivers, and do a good job of cleaning up after yourself.
