These are two different companies.
1. Daoxiangchun, the founder is named Zhang Senlong. He learned the craft at Wang Renhe Tea Shop in Shanghai and is a disciple of Dandan in Jiangsu.
In 1913, he came to Beijing alone and set up a stall making and selling "eyebrow meat dumplings" in Dong'an Market. There was an oven on the beach where he baked and sold the dumplings.
In 1915, he raised funds and founded the "Sen Chunyang" food store in Dongqing Building. He began to hire clerks and opened a food store featuring southern flavor. Each of these store technicians has a unique skill, and the pastries they make are delicious and fragrant.
At that time, most food stores in various places used "Daoxiangcun" as their brand name. In order to distinguish themselves from others, Zhang Senlong took the spring character from his own brand name "Chunshan" and changed "cun" to "spring" to name his own. The Nanwei food store is called "Daoxiangchun".
Daoxiangchun’s pastries are mainly Su-style, with a mix of Guangzhou-style and Western-style pastries. The famous ones include eyebrow meat cakes (pancake dumplings), dumplings, beef tongue cakes, rose cakes, and ebony cakes. Mid-Autumn Festival mooncakes. There are also more than 40 varieties of raw and cooked meats and vegetarian dishes, such as barbecued pork, fried chicken, Nanjing salted duck, vegetarian assorted dishes (Luohan Zhai), vegetarian chicken and vegetarian ham.
2. Daoxiang Village was founded by Zhu Youqing and others.
After the founding of the Republic of China, more and more southerners came to Beijing. At that time, Zhu Youqing and others from Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, caught the Southerners' habit of eating sweets and jointly opened the "Daoxiangcun" Southern Goods Store in Qianmen Busy Street. It sells homemade southern pastries and southern specialties, which are very popular among southerners. It also attracts northern customers, and business is booming.
Later, because there were too many businesses using "Daoxiang Village" as their store name, it became a mixed bag. In 1916, Zhu Youqing withdrew from Daoxiang Village, and Yu Xidan opened Guixiang Village to compete with it. In addition, Zhang Senlong's Daoxiangchun was a strong rival, so Daoxiang Village had no choice but to close down in 1925.
In the early 1980s, the time-honored brand of Daoxiang Village was restored. The main business method was still the front store and the back factory, and efforts were made to excavate and restore the tradition. Won the Outstanding Food Time-honored Brand Award in 1988. The new store is located at No. 150 Dongsi North Street and No. 10 East Gate of Dengshi.
