How to cultivate walnut seedlings

Walnut seedling cultivation technology:

1. Seed treatment: During spring sowing, seed treatment should be carried out before sowing to ensure germination. The usual method is cold invasion and sun exposure. The cold sun exposure method involves soaking the seeds for 7-10 days and changing the water once a day to allow the seeds to absorb water and swell. When there are a few seeds cracked, remove them and expose them to the sun on the cement floor. After most of the seeds crack, they can be sown. It is usually carried out in late March or early April.

2. Sowing method: Commonly used on-demand method. Sow on demand in the prepared seedbed with a row spacing of 20-30 cm and a plant spacing of 15 cm. The seed suture line should be vertical to the ground and the seed tips should be placed to one side. In this way, after emergence, the seedling root system will stretch, the seedling stems will be upright, and the growth will be strong. Sowing depth is 6-8 cm.

3. Sowing rate: Sowing rate varies depending on plant-row spacing and seed size and quality. Generally, about 100 kilograms of dried walnuts are planted per acre, and the yield of approximately 6,000-8,000 seedlings per acre. It is best to use the film-covered seedling method. In this way, seedlings emerge early, the seedlings have a long growth cycle, and the seedlings emerge neatly and robustly.

4. Walnuts sprout and emerge about 20 days after spring sowing, and all appear in about 40 days. To cultivate strong and high-quality seedlings, field management during the seedling stage must be strengthened.
