The Brittle Snake Lizard has degenerated limbs and is as slender as a snake. The total length is 500-600mm
m, and the tail is about twice as long as the head. There are ear holes, about as large as the nostrils; there are movable eyelids; there are three small scales between the nasal scales on the back of the muzzle and the single prefrontal scale (frontal nasal scale). Body with a longitudinal shallow groove on each side, dorsal scales in 14-16 longitudinal rows above the right and left longitudinal grooves, distinctly furrowed; ventral scales in 11 longitudinal rows, smooth. Dorsal surface light reddish brown, with a dark brown longitudinal line on the side of the body, and often a number of bluish-green spots with black borders on the dorsal surface; ventral surface grayish brown or light yellow.
