Nagasaki University (ながさきだぃがく), located in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, is one of the six old medical government universities. 1949 was formed by the merger of Nagasaki Medical University, Department of Pharmacy affiliated to Nagasaki Medical University, Nagasaki Institute of Economics (Nagasaki Higher Business School before World War II), Nagasaki Normal School, Nagasaki Youth Normal School and Nagasaki Higher Education School. Nagasaki Medical University, the oldest public medical college in Japan and the predecessor of the Medical Department, was bombed by the atomic bomb on August 9, 1945.
