Expanded Information

Background of Creation

In 1925, while Lu Xun was a university lecturer in Beijing, he was attacked and criticized by the so-called "righteous people" of the time for his support of the student movement. "In 1926, the Northern Warlord government shot and killed progressive students, causing the March 18th tragedy. The author Lu Xun wrote a series of articles, including "In Memory of Liu Hezhen," and was wanted by the authorities and had to take refuge in Xiamen. Although the works in Chaohua xiushu jie are all about reminiscing the past, they are also about making use of the past to allude to and ridicule the social reality of the time.
