Recently, I have studied the relevant courses and knowledge of children's English enlightenment. After the first stage of study and processing, I have summarized and shared some of my thoughts and feelings in "vernacular" as follows:
First, in the initial stage, please focus on input, and listen and watch more children's audio and video. However, pay attention: don't listen to "sandwich" English for children (that is, dad's father is called grandpa), but be sure to input pure original and original English for children, which will help to cultivate their voice recognition ability.
Second, in the early input stage, you don't have to worry about whether the child can understand or listen. Repeated input is to get children used to English pronunciation.
Third, the earlier children are exposed to English pronunciation, the better, and the higher their acceptance will be. Then, how can parents with poor English like us expose their children to English pronunciation and create an English environment for their children? To put it bluntly, how do they let their children learn English and how do they start? Did you just send it to the training class?
The following part is my own summary, mainly for school-age children, that is, children who have never learned English from large classes to primary schools, and 2-4-year-old or preschool children refer to the first two, with emphasis on inputting and reading picture books)
First of all, it takes about three months to cultivate children's interest in English.
Operation method:
? 1. Increase listening input: play original cartoons (children who can read choose the version without subtitles or Chinese subtitles), movies, stories and children's songs (that is, only show English videos to children).
? 2. Read more foreign original children's books (many websites sell them, and you can buy them after comparing the price and version) to cultivate children's interest in independent reading; At the beginning, you can read picture books (especially for younger babies). It is best to choose picture books and story books with audio to facilitate children to listen to books. First, let the children see through the meanings of the pictures in the picture book (parents can use descriptive Chinese to help them understand the situational meanings of the picture book), so as to arouse children's interest and eliminate their wariness of English, and then find suitable opportunities to make situational correspondence between English words and pictures. Parents can read aloud with their children, or imitate, learn and read aloud with the help of the audio of textbooks until the children can read independently.
? 3. It should be noted that whether it is video, audio or books, the premise of choice should be children's interests, what they like, and more importantly, the original English version (not recorded and read by us in China).
I have a small tab to share this: spend 1-5 yuan can buy a lot of resources, haha.
? 4. If possible, we choose English for TV and video songs that adults watch every day. We can't use English all the time (even simple conversations are ok, and our pronunciation is not so primitive), but we can try our best to create a "big" spoken English environment and provide as many English phonetic symbols as possible, which is helpful to train children's listening.
Secondly, let children learn pronunciation and visual words.
Those who have studied Pinyin in primary school but have never been exposed to English can learn by spelling and visual morphology at the same time in the first three points.
Operation method:
? 1. Parents with "conditions" will teach themselves spelling and visual reading first, then learn how to teach their children (they may not know how to teach themselves, so they should learn how to teach them), and finally teach their children by themselves.
? 2. Send appropriate training courses.
? 3. No matter whether you teach yourself or send to a training class, you can't ignore the practice and application in daily life. You can consolidate the skills you have learned through reading, videos and games (yes, spelling is not a goal, but a skill). It should be noted that listening input and reading should be continued in the learning stage of spelling and visual words. Different from the previous stage, this stage should be able to read the audio independently before listening to it, instead of listening to it first and then reading it.
? Finally, after mastering spelling and sight reading, it is necessary to strengthen the cultivation of children's fluent reading and reading comprehension ability. As for the output, the input is much, and the output is a matter of course.
Although there is no shortcut to language learning, it requires a lot of listening and reading, but we should also avoid excessive reading and learning in a single day. If you have 5 hours a day, 5 days a day 1 hour, you should choose the latter. This is a long-term process, which makes children feel that English, like Chinese, is a part of daily life.
The above is my learning experience and summary during this period. Interested moms/dads, we can discuss it together.
