Honeysuckle is a deciduous shrub or small tree of the genus Lonicera of the family Lonicerae. It is also known as honeysuckle, chicken bone, etc. Honeysuckle can be planted in clusters on lawns, hillsides, forest edges, roadsides, or dotted around buildings. It is an excellent flower and fruit tree species. It likes light and is relatively shade-tolerant, can withstand low temperatures of -40°C, is drought-tolerant, and is resistant to barren soil. It has strong adaptability to soil and strong growth.
(1) Sowing and raising seedlings. Collect seeds from October to November when they are fully mature, remove the pulp, select with water, dry in the shade, and store in dry condition until sowing in the spring of the second year. About 40 days before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water for 3 hours, then mix them with 3 times the amount of wet sand, and place them in a warm place to accelerate germination. Once the seeds begin to germinate, they can be sown in open seedbeds. The row spacing is 20 to 25 cm, drill sowing, the trench depth is 2 to 3 cm, the seeding rate per square meter is about 5 grams, and the soil cover is about 1 cm. Early sowing in spring is covered with plastic film to protect moisture and increase temperature. Seedlings will emerge 20 to 30 days after sowing. Remove the plastic film after emergence. When the seedlings are 4 to 5 centimeters tall, the seedlings should be planted at a distance of 10 to 15 centimeters. It can grow to more than 40 centimeters that year.
(2) Propagation by cuttings. In summer, use the semi-lignified branches of the current year to make cuttings and cut them into 10-15 cm long cuttings. Leave 2 pairs of compound leaves and cut off 1/2. Soak about 2 cm of the base of the cuttings in 50 mg/kg ABT No. 1 rooting powder solution for 1 hour. Cuttings are made in clean river sand at a depth of 2 to 4 centimeters and at a density where the leaves are just joined. Shade, control the relative air humidity to 80-90, and the temperature to about 25°C, and it will take about 1 month to take root.
In places where the winter is not too cold, when more than 1/3 of the trees have lost their leaves, use strong branches of the current year for cuttings. Cut to a length of about 10 cm, and the cutting depth is 7 to 8 cm. Use a small shed to moisturize and keep warm, and water it once after inserting. Generally, they can take root before freezing and sprout in the second spring.
