How many grades are there in French wine?
French wines are divided into four grades: daily table wine (Vin de Table), regional table wine (Vin de Pay), excellent regional wine (Vinde Limits de Qualite Superieure/VDQS) and appellation d 'Origin Controlee/AOC. This is the wine grade stipulated by French law. The higher the grade, the higher the AOC grade, which is the highest grade of French wine. The classification is based on: the origin of grapes, the variety of wine grapes, alcohol concentration, unit yield, sugar content in grape juice, grape planting methods, wine fermentation methods, wine storage regulations, bottling time regulations and grape harvest year regulations. Low-grade wine is not required or not as high as high-grade wine in some aspects. For example, the daily table wine can be brewed with grapes of different years without indicating the year, while the wine in the legal producing area (AOC-grade wine) must be brewed with grapes harvested in that year and marked on the label.
