The original name of Port Wine is Port Wine, produced in Portugal along the Douro River, but with the United Kingdom has a thousand links, so people often use the English Port Wine to call. Port is a type of wine.
Why is Port Wine called Good Night Wine
Because Port Wine, a very high degree of this wine, and people drink a cup of it down to have a feeling of wanting to go to sleep, so Port Wine is called Good Night Wine. Port is a sweet red fortified wine from Portugal that originated in Portugal in the southwest corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
Origin of Port Wine
In the late 17th and early 18th centuries, wines acid made were usually shipped mainly to England, and at that time, glass wine bottles and oak corks had not been invented, so oak barrels were used as containers for transportation. Due to the long distances, the wine spoiled easily. Later the river-benders added neutral alcohol (grape distilled alcohol) to the wine, which would make the wine less prone to spoilage and ensure the quality of the wine, which was the earliest port wine.
According to the policy of the Portuguese government, if a winemaker wants to write "Port" on his product, he must have three conditions: first, it must be made from grapes grown in the Ote Doiro region, upstream of the Douro River. Firstly, the grapes must be grown in the Aute-du-Roi area, and in order to enhance the strength of the product, the brandy used for blending must also be made from grapes grown in this area. Secondly, it must be aged and stored in the Vila Nova Gaia cellar at the mouth of the Douro River and shipped from the port of Porto on the other side of the river. Thirdly, the product must be at least 165 proof. If any of the three conditions are not met, no wine, even if it is produced in Portugal, can be labeled "port.
Port Taste
Port is the most common dessert wine because it is sweet, with flavors of raspberries, blackberries, caramel, cinnamon and chocolate sauce. Port is made by adding neutral alcohol to kill the yeast and stop the fermentation, which gives it a higher proof and a sweet flavor.
