The South Korean movie 'Suyuan' tells a very brutal story about the real-life events that took place.
When it comes to the movie "Hope", many people should probably have seen it, and in fact, what many people don't know is that there is a prototype for the movie, and that person is Cho Doo-soon. In 2008, the suspect, Jo Doo-soon, raped the 8-year-old girl in an extremely brutal manner by carrying her into a toilet on her way to school. After the case, Doo-soon was sentenced to 12 years in prison and was released on December 12 of this year because he was found to be mentally ill. Jo Doo-soon's case was also turned into a movie called "Hope".
Here's how the case unfolded:
On the morning of Dec. 11, 2008, Hope, an 8-year-old elementary school student, went to school happily, but she didn't know that a nightmare awaited her. When Hope was passing by a church in Gyeonggi Province, she was carried into the toilet by Cho Doo-soon, who was waiting for her. Jo Doo-soon sexually assaulted her, but Hope resisted and Jo Doo-soon beat her in the process, inflicting great damage.
After the incident, Jo Doo-soon poured a large amount of cold water into Hope to wash it away, after which someone found Hope and took her to the hospital for treatment, where she needed help to even urinate and defecate due to the severity of her injuries.
Shortly afterward, Cho Doo-soon was arrested, but, because a judge ruled that he was mentally unstable, and because South Korea does not have the death penalty, and the maximum prison sentence is only 15 years, Cho Doo-soon was sentenced to only a 12-year sentence. However, the impact of the Cho Doo-soon case was so great that laws were introduced one after another in response to this case. It is worth noting that after the Cho Doo-soon case, South Korean judges no longer allow offenders to apply for sentence reductions in cases of sexual violence against children on the grounds that "intoxication has weakened the mind and spirit".
All in all, anyone who has seen "Hope" will be shocked at the brutality of the killer.
