The Pendulum Dance is a local traditional dance of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan Province, one of the national intangible cultural heritages.

The Pendulum Dance has a long history, and the Pendulum Dance arose from the ancient ancestor worship ceremony of the Tujia people. Qing Qianlong "Yongshun Fu Zhi" records: "Walled villages have swinging hands hall, the first three days of the first month of each year to 17 days, the night gongs and drums, men and women gathered, dancing and singing, the name of the day "swinging hands", this custom is still alive." According to the Qing Dynasty, the eight temple monument and the county records of the king of the residual presumed that the hand dance has nearly a thousand years of history.
The Xiangxi Tujia Hand Pendulum Dance integrates songs, dances, music and dramas, and expresses a wide range of historical and social life contents, such as the opening of the sky and the earth, the reproduction of human beings, the migration of ethnic groups, hunting and fishing, mulberry and silkworm performance and weaving, slash-and-burn cultivation, ancient wars, myths and legends, and diet and living. Its dance content is structured by the above ceremonial program. Whenever celebrating the New Year, commemorating ancestors or having a reunion, the Tujia people have to dance the Pendulum Dance. In the villages where the Tujia people live, there are "gallery fields" specializing in the Pendulum Dance, which the Tujia people call the Pendulum Dance Hall.
