Songjiang perch has a flat head and gradually flattens backwards. Its head has edges and no thorns. Its anterior branchial operculum has four spines, the upper spine is the largest and bends upward. Its dorsal fin is continuous, with a deep recess and a big mouth. Its upper jaw is slightly longer. Its lower jaw, plough bone and upper jaw all have furry teeth. The lower pectoral fin has no branches, and the ventral fin 1-4. There are two orange diagonal lines on the gill membrane.
Songjiang perch is a kind of fish with wide temperature and salt. Its suitable water temperature is 3-33℃, and it has strong adaptability to low temperature. It can still survive normally at -0.9℃. Because of its wide adaptability to salinity, it can grow normally in fresh water, brackish water and seawater. It is a fierce carnivorous fish, and its food mainly includes protozoa, rotifers, cladocera, copepods, aquatic insects and benthos.
Songjiang perch has high nutritional value. Protein in its body is richer than eel and beef, and amino acids and vitamins are much higher than other meat products. Has the edible functions of invigorating qi, benefiting liver and prolonging life. Mainly distributed in the Philippines, Korea, Japan, China, East China Sea, Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, with the model origin in the Philippines.
