Cashew nuts grow all year round in tropical areas, but grow slowly in winter in the northern part of Hainan Island in China, and basically stop growing during the cold wave and low temperature. The fruiting branches are mostly plucked in spring, while those in southern areas are mostly plucked in winter, which is the period of flowering, fruiting and harvest, and the shoots are rarely plucked.

The results of four-year fertilization on Yaoguoshu in the coastal terrace in the southwest of Hainan Island showed that applying nitrogen fertilizer had a very significant effect. At least 1. kg urea should be applied to each fruit tree every year to keep the balance between nitrogen supply and consumption. The effect of combined application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is better. To produce 5 kilograms of nuts per plant, 3-4 kilograms of cashew nut special fertilizer or 1.5 kilograms of urea and 1.5-2 kilograms of 45% compound fertilizer are needed.

Generally, cashew trees begin to blossom in the second year, bear fruit in the third year, and enter the abundant period in the eighth year, which can last for 15 to 2 years. Yaoguoshu is suitable for planting in neutral to slightly acidic soil. However, in the soil with good ventilation, the root growth of cashew trees is not good in the low-lying waterlogged land. Alkaline soil and soil with high salt content are also not suitable for planting, and other tropical soils can be planted.
