Identification method:
Ejiao is made from donkey skin by rinsing and depilating. There are many fakes of Ejiao, which are also complicated. Generally speaking, it can be identified from the following aspects.
(1) packaging: Ejiao, like other medicines, is a special commodity, and the packaging must indicate the factory name, address, approval number, product name, registered trademark, functional indications, specifications, etc. At present, the quality of Donge brand, Runhuitang brand and Donge Town brand is the best.
(2) Block shape: the genuine product is rectangular and block-shaped, the color is as bright as lacquer and transparent as amber, and the surface is smooth with longitudinal coarse cloth stripes; Fake products have different shapes and specifications, such as black ink or blood red.
(3) Texture: the real quality is firm and brittle, and it is hard to break by hand and fragile when struck. The section is bright and brown and translucent to light; Fake goods do not have the above characteristics, and are easy to soften in summer and break in winter.
(4) Smell: the genuine product has a gelatinous aroma; Fake goods have a strange smell.

The "mixed skin glue" made of fake Ejiao is mainly made of pigskin glue, Niu Pijiao, mixed skin and mixed bones. Pigskin glue, also called Xin Ejiao by some people, has a rectangular block shape, a dark brown surface luster, a hard and brittle texture, brown fragments in light perspective but not translucent, and a dull cross section.
Niu Pijiao, also known as yellow gelatin, is similar in appearance to Ejiao. Its surface is brown, sticky and not fragile. Its broken surface is shiny, fishy and slightly sweet.
Its appearance is similar to Ejiao, its surface is dark brown and shiny, it is brown and translucent to light, hard and easy to soften but not easy to break, sometimes it is deformed or sticky, and its cross section is not bright. The smell of gas is slightly sweet. Bone glue, the glue surface often has small pores, dull, opaque or slightly transparent. Tough, not easy to break, and the cross section has no glass feeling to the light (the real thing has it).
Differentiate Ejiao from Niu Pijiao, Miscellaneous Skin Glue and Pig Skin Glue Bone Glue. You can also add appropriate amount of water and heat it to dissolve, and then watch the color and taste of its aqueous solution. The aqueous solution of genuine Ejiao is transparent brown-red or tea-red, clear but not turbid, slightly fishy and slightly sweet. The aqueous solution of pigskin glue is turbid and brown, and fatty oil can be seen on the surface of the aqueous solution, which smells like pork skin soup and tastes slightly sweet. Niu Pijiao's aqueous solution is grayish brown, sometimes turbid, and sometimes gray precipitate can be seen, which is fishy and slightly sweet. The aqueous solution of miscellaneous leather gum is transparent reddish brown, with oil droplets on the surface and sometimes a small amount of impurities, which is fishy and sweet.
