It is endemic to China. It is distributed in Shaanxi, Gansu, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou.

It grows at 1400-3400 meters above sea level in moist ground among bushes, in dense forests, by water and in the wilderness.

Deciduous shrub, up to 3 m tall.

Leaf blade elliptic, elliptic-ovate or elliptic-obovate, 3.5 to 8 (10) centimeters long, 1.5 to 3 (4.5) centimeters wide, apex acuminate or acute, base broadly cuneate or suborbicular, entire, sparsely pubescent above, glabrescent with age.

Leaf veins slightly sunken, pubescent below, hairier on the veins, gradually falling off as they grow, nearly glabrous with age, veins conspicuously raised; petiole 2-4 mm long, often pubescent.
