Separation of butyl acetate and tert-butanol
1, standing stratification: the mixture containing butyl acetate and tert-butanol is put into a dispensing funnel, and then left for a period of time to allow the two substances to stratify due to the different densities.

2. Release the lower layer: after observing the layering of butyl acetate and tert-butanol, release the lower layer of tert-butanol, leaving butyl acetate in the upper layer.

3, extraction: in order to get the tert-butanol separated from the acetate butyl ester, another solvent can be used for extraction. Choose a solvent that is soluble with both butyl acetate and tert-butanol, such as methanol or ethanol. Add this solvent to the butyl acetate, mix thoroughly and then leave to stratify again.

4, washing: the upper layer of butyl acetate slowly poured into a clean beaker, and then add the appropriate amount of water for washing. The water can wash away the residual tert-butanol in the butyl acetate.

5, drying: after washing, remove the water in the butyl acetate by means of desiccant or dry distillation to get dry butyl acetate.
