Hydroponic Garlic Observation Journal by:
1, Planting Garlic
First of all, a full and intact garlic was selected and placed neatly in a bowl filled with water. To prevent the garlic from floating, weigh them down with some small stones. Then, place the bowl in a well-lit area but out of direct sunlight and keep the water clean.
2. Observe the growth
Over the next few days, start observing the growth of the garlic. Notice that after about three days, the roots of the garlic begin to extend out of the garlic head and the white, thin roots float in the water. After a week, the roots of the garlic had grown longer and thicker, and at the same time, the garlic leaves were seen to emerge from the garlic head.
3.Recording Changes
The changes in the growth of the garlic were recorded in pictures and words. Starting from the first day, a picture was taken every two days and data such as the height of the garlic, the length of the roots and the color of the leaves were recorded. The data will be used for later analysis and comparison.
4. Experimental Comparison
In order to better understand the growth of hydroponic garlic, a comparative experiment was done. In another bowl, the same garlic was planted but using soil for planting. Similarly, the growth of the soil-grown garlic was recorded. By comparing the growth in the two different environments, the differences between hydroponics and soil cultivation can be drawn.
5. Analyzing the results
By comparing the two methods of cultivation of garlic, it was found that hydroponically grown garlic grew slightly faster than soil grown garlic. Both the roots and leaves of hydroponic garlic grew significantly faster than soil-grown. However, it is worth noting that although the hydroponic garlic grew faster, the soil-grown garlic had a more developed root system and a greater number of roots. This may be because the soil provides the garlic with more nutrients and room to grow.
