Huaiyang narrowly refers to today's cities of Huai'an and Yangzhou, both of which are part of Jiangsu Province.
Huaiyang, the name of the place, in a broader sense, includes the lower reaches of the Huaihe River and the Yangzi River, including Huai'an, Taizhou, Zhenjiang, Yancheng, Gaoyou, and the downtown area of Yangzhou, which is situated in the north and south of the Yangtze River, close to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Geographically it is an important transportation hub connecting north, south, west and east, and is relatively close in terms of food, dialect and customs.
