Eating moon cakes, as an important custom of Mid-Autumn Festival, is a national Mid-Autumn Festival activity, but there are great differences between north and south. Northern moon cakes, represented by Beijing-style moon cakes, pay attention to plain oil and plain stuffing and moderate sweetness and saltiness.
There are many kinds of moon cakes in the south, and the typical Soviet-style moon cakes are rich in oil and polysaccharide, which is the sweetest of all moon cakes, which is in line with the sweet taste of southerners.
2. Different eating habits
During the Mid-Autumn Festival in northern Yue Bai, all the fruits presented have northern characteristics. Such as apples, oranges, edamame, lotus root, watermelon and so on. People in many places in the south should prepare taro, oranges, sugar cane and so on. These are the specialties of the south, which are hard to see in the ancient north. In addition, there are rice cakes and cloud cakes in the south.
3. Different gifts
As soon as the Mid-Autumn Festival arrives, northerners begin to give gifts to each other a few days in advance, most of which are seasonal fruits and holiday food. However, people in many places in the south have unique styles when giving gifts. For example, in Hunan, Guizhou, Anhui and other places, there is a custom of "stealing melons and praying for blessings".
As the name implies, this custom is to steal melons from other people's gardens on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and then give them to families without children, in this way to express their desire to have children born earlier.
4. Different festivals.
Mid-Autumn Festival activities in the north revolve around the moon, such as climbing mountains and enjoying the moon near the water. There are various Mid-Autumn Festival activities in the south, such as burning towers and smoke piles in Chaoshan area and "Bo Cake" activities in Jinjiang area. Although these activities are unique to the Mid-Autumn Festival, they have little to do with the moon. On the contrary, they are more like a kind of celebration and entertainment, only in the Mid-Autumn Festival.
