Pepsi, born in the 1890s, was registered on June 16, 1903 as a trademark. It later evolved into a carbonated beverage introduced by PepsiCo in the United States and a major competitor of Coca-Cola in the United States.
PepsiCo's predecessor, PepsiCo, was founded in 1898. PepsiCo merged with Frito-Lay, the world's largest manufacturer and marketer of casual foods, in 1965 to form PepsiCo. In order to better utilize the advantages of its product mix and focus its marketing operations on its core brands, PepsiCo made a major strategic adjustment in October 1997, separating its restaurants with Pizza Hut, KFC and TacoBell from the company and making it an independent publicly traded company, PepsiCo Global, which also allowed it to focus on brand building and brand marketing.
