The original recipe uses light rum, but golden or dark rum tastes better. The more popular modern version of the recipe is Champagne Mojito (infused with just the right amount of Champagne instead of soda water), Dry Ginger Mojito Jito (mash some fresh dried ginger root into the stock). Some like fresh lime mixed with loose sugar to make a mojito-like mix, but lime juice and sweet syrup are the real flavor.
This is the drink that got James Bond drunk in the movie "Die Another Day." Sparkling water is optional, so don't add more than an ounce or more water. This drink is a rum julep with lime juice and soda water. Common variations include using sugar (brown sugar, white sugar, powdered sugar), rum (Cuban rum, other Caribbean, various wines), and more interestingly, the type of mint - chopped mint, with other mints wait.
