Mangseo is the name of the festival, the ninth of the 24 solar terms in the lunar calendar, the third solar term in summer, indicating the official start of the midsummer season.
Mangseed literally means "wheat with awns will be harvested soon, and rice with awns can be planted". The word "芒种" refers to the harvesting of wheat and other plants with awns, and the word "种" refers to the festival of sowing grain and millet crops. "Mang seed" two words harmonize, indicating that all crops are in the "busy seed". The arrival of the "Mang Seed" signaled the beginning of the farmers' busy life in the fields.
