Note: In social situations, you should not cut the food and then take the fork with your right hand to send the food to your mouth. It certainly doesn't matter if you are at a family gathering or a shop with a casual atmosphere.
Basic usage of knife and fork
(1) Hold the food with a fork and cut it with a knife.
The basic action after serving is "cut it with a knife in your right hand, and then fork the food with a fork in your left hand". Press the left end of the food with a fork and fix it. Cut the food about the size of a bite with a knife along the side of the fork, and the fork can directly fork the food and send it to the mouth.
(2) Correct posture and proper angle
People who can't cut the food smoothly must first correct their posture. Too high elbows on both sides will make the knife and fork angle too large and stand upright; If the elbow is too low, the knife and fork will fall down, so there is no way to cut the dish properly. The correct posture is: relax your shoulders and wrists, keep your arms close to your body, and keep the angle between the knife and the plate at about 15 degrees. This can not only cut the food easily, but also look elegant.
The movement of the knife also has its essentials. First, you should force yourself on the fork in your left hand, and then gently move the knife. You should not force yourself when pulling the knife back, but force yourself when pressing it forward, so as to cut the food neatly.
Note: The knives and forks on the dining table are all fixed. Left-handed people can exchange the positions of knives and forks when using them, but after eating, they still need to put the tableware in the normal position, just to avoid causing troubles to the service staff.
(3) How to place knives and forks
It's eight-shaped in dining.
Knife and fork have another very important function besides the function of delivering food to the mouth.
The arrangement of knives and forks conveys the signal of "during the meal" or "the meal is over". It is based on this signal that the waiter judges the dining situation of the guests, so as to decide whether to clear the tableware and prepare for the next service.
Note: one side of the blade must face itself, and the blade facing others is a sign of hostility. There are two ways to place the end of a meal.
After eating, the front of the fork can be put up and the blade side of the knife can be put together with the fork and placed on the plate in parallel. Next, it can be divided into English style and French style, no matter which way is ok, but the most commonly used one is French style.
Try to put the handle in the plate, so as to avoid falling off due to touching, and it is easier for the waiter to clean up.
