Sesame Street was first broadcast on 19691month 10 on National Educational Television (the predecessor of Public Broadcasting Service) in the United States. It is by far the most Emmy-winning children's program (153, as of 2009). This program comprehensively uses puppets, animations and live-action performances to teach children basic knowledge such as reading, arithmetic, color names, letters and numbers, and sometimes teaches some basic life knowledge, such as how to cross the road safely and the importance of hygiene. Many of them have become models for other TV programs to imitate.
