The Tale of Wounds is a light novel written by Japanese novelist Nishio Wishin and illustrated by Taiwanese illustrator VOFAN (real name Dai Yuanheng). It is a prequel to the first book in the Monogatari series, "Chemical Monogatari", and tells the story of the protagonist, Araragi Calendar, and vampires. It was first serialized in the magazine Kodansha BOX and released in a single volume on May 7, 2008 by Kodansha Co. Later, a traditional Chinese version of Hurt Story was released on August 9, 2011 by Taiwan's Top Publishing House. It has been confirmed that it will be adapted into a theater version, with Akiyuki Niiho as the supervisor.
