Founded in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it was originally named "daming temple". It is said that it was later changed to "Hongluo Temple" because of Hongluoxian. Since ancient times, there has been a saying that "South Putuo, North Luohong". It can be seen that Hongluo Temple has a high position in the history of Buddhism.
It is said that Tucheng Buddha, the founder of Hongluo Temple, sought the birthplace of Buddhism in northern China under the guidance of dreams. However, there has been no progress for more than 20 years. It was not until he found the auspicious image of Buddha's enlightenment in Luohongshan through Yuyang City that he realized his dream. He built a temple here and named it "daming temple", which is the predecessor of Hongluo Temple.
However, how did it become a red snail? There is a more bizarre story. It is said that the Jade Emperor in the sky has two daughters who came here, turned into red snails and hid in the lake. No one knows why they came, they have a guess. Some people say it is to covet the beauty of the world, while others say it is to save the Lebanese people. There are different opinions. They are very mysterious. As a result, the "red snail" replaced its original name, and it still exudes quaint charm until today.
As the distant bell entered the temple, cigarettes filled the air, drifting with the wind through evergreen pines and cypresses, wandering in front of the main hall and wing. The white pagoda is delicate and pretty, and the ancient trees cover the sky. The stone courtyard was hidden in a piece of green, so I had to catch a glimpse of a corner. A corner of the pavilion flies out, and a wind chime hangs high at the front end. The bell is crisp and bright, and it is introduced into the mountains, which is more and more quiet and comfortable.
The temple is divided into five courtyards with a total of 244 houses. The atrium extends along the main axis of Shanmen, Tianwang Hall, Ursa Major Hall and Sanmiao Temple. Other auxiliary halls and meditation rooms are located on both sides, dotted with beautiful stars.
When it comes to the scenery of Hongluo Temple, Ma's You Hongluo Temple in Ming Dynasty is particularly vivid. "Rainbow Lin Yuan, a mirage upside down. Baizhang Peak's head is near Beidou, and it is wrong to suspect that the resort spits Longquan, which is worthy of careful appreciation.
The "three wonders" hidden in the poem are the representatives of the beautiful scenery of Hongluo Temple. They are wisteria pine, royal bamboo forest and male and female ginkgo with unique scenery.
Just arrived at the mountain gate, I saw the royal bamboo forest, one of the "three wonders of red snails", surrounded by green bamboos, green and dripping, and a gust of wind. The sound of the bamboo forest is like a tide, and its posture is swaying, which makes people fondle it. No wonder Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty was tempted.
It is said that this bamboo forest was originally planted by Zen master Yunshan in Yuan Dynasty, with a history of more than 600 years. Emperor Kangxi came to Hongluo Temple to burn incense and found it by accident. Because its green bamboo was praised, he told monks and local officials to protect it more. Since then, people have called this bamboo forest "Royal Bamboo Forest", and the modern bamboo pavilion stands on the west side of the bamboo forest, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the bamboo forest, with a long aftertaste and far-reaching significance.
In front of the Hall of Great Heroes, two tall ancient ginkgo trees stand side by side, just like a couple in Qi Mei, so some people call them "husband and wife trees", which is the male and female ginkgo in the "Three Unique Red Snails". After a hundred years of dryness, the two trees are still tall and straight, with dense branches and leaves, after the changes of four seasons and the invasion of wind, frost, rain and snow. Among them, the larger male trees are full of yellow flowers every spring, but they do not bear fruit in autumn; It is really strange that a slightly smaller female tree has no flowers in spring and many fruits in autumn.
The west of the front yard of the Three Temples is wisteria pine in The Red Snail. Standing in the distance, I saw the vines rolling, and the pines and vines had already merged. One of the flat tops rose from the ground and soared into the sky, and the branches were flattened. Two vines coiled up from the bottom like giant pythons and swam along the branches. Standing under the tree, like a giant umbrella covering the top, the sun can only leave mottled shadows on the ground through dense leaves.
When you come to the temple at the beginning of May every year, you can see that purple flowers are opening for the second time, sending fragrance to the wind; In autumn, leaves turn yellow or red, and pine trees seem to wear colorful clothes, which are dazzling and beautiful.
