Xuanzong of the Ming Dynasty affirmed the sovereignty of the Ming Dynasty over the island and named it Ambuna Island. However, the direct connection between the Ming Dynasty and the island became less and less, and people in China called it Tianya Island.

At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Guangdong Wencun regime failed to move to Leizhou Peninsula. Therefore, people called Zhang's kingdom the Great Mother's Dark Country, which still belonged to China at that time.

But soon the Dutch came and included this area in the category of Dutch Indonesia. Later, the island had a new name called Natuna Islands, and people changed Zhang's kingdom to Natuna Kingdom.
