The scientific name of the opium fish is Atlantic halibut, commonly known as European halibut.

The opah, mainly produced along the eastern coast of the Atlantic Ocean, is a valuable low-temperature economic fish, and is one of the endemic and valuable fish species along the northeastern Atlantic coast.
