Shrimp is a kind of creature with obvious sex. In the process of growth, the characters of male shrimp and female shrimp are very different, so they can be distinguished by some characteristics.

First of all, from the appearance of prawns, male prawns are usually large and flat, and their first, second and fifth pairs of abdominal limbs usually have obvious dentate protrusions. In addition, the male shrimp also has an obvious genitalia at the end of the tail, that is, the reproductive silk. By observing the size and shape of this reproductive silk, the sex of the shrimp can be preliminarily judged.

Secondly, we can further identify the sex of prawn by observing its abdomen. In the belly of shrimp, we can see the exoskeleton composed of several different plates. There is a big depression between the first and fifth plates of male shrimp, but the depression is smaller or missing in the female shrimp.

In addition, there is a more accurate discrimination method, which is the genital mutilation of prawns. This method needs to be operated by experienced professionals, and the sex of prawns can be accurately determined by removing their genitals, but this method is not suitable for large-scale operations such as prawn farms.

Generally speaking, male and female prawns are distinguished mainly by observing external characteristics, abdominal structure and genitals. In the actual breeding and management, it is of great significance to reasonably distinguish the sex of shrimp for maintaining the health and reproduction of shrimp population.
