Cumin (scientific name: Cuminum cyminum? L.), also known as cumin and cumin celery, is called fennel in southern Xinjiang. It is an annual or biennial herb of Umbelliferae and Cuminum, with a height of 20~40cm. The whole plant (except the fruit) is smooth and hairless, with pink or white petals, oblong, flowering in April and fruiting in May.

Cumin is rich in essential oil and has a strong aroma. It is considered to be the second most important spice crop in the world after pepper. Cumin also has a variety of medicinal properties, such as regulating qi, stimulating appetite, dispelling cold and removing dampness, and also has anti-allergic, anti-oxidation, anti-platelet aggregation and hypoglycemic effects, so it has been widely concerned by scholars at home and abroad.

Cumin has strong adaptability, drought tolerance and fear of waterlogging, and is not strict with soil requirements. Generally, sandy loam with good permeability and drainage should be chosen for planting. Wheat, corn, bean stubble, green manure land or vegetable land are suitable for the previous crop, which requires plots with high fertility, deep soil layer, flat terrain and convenient irrigation and drainage.

Apply sufficient base fertilizer, intensive cultivation and land preparation. Apply 3500 kg of high-quality farmyard manure, 50 kg of diammonium phosphate 15 kg or 50 kg-75 kg of calcium superphosphate and 5 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. After applying them into the soil, harrow and level, and reach the state of being sown with flat ground, no clods and even moisture content.
