1. Alfalfa, also known as clover, grass head, alfalfa, is a legume, alfalfa plants. Perennial herb, much branched, 30-100 centimeters high. Leaves are 3-foliolate; leaflets are obovate or oblanceolate, 1-2 centimeters long, about 0.5 centimeters wide, rounded at the apex, with a slightly protruding midrib, the upper leaf margins serrate, and white villous on both surfaces; petiolules are about 1 millimeter long and hairy; stipules are lanceolate, pointed at the apex, pilose, and about 5 millimeters long. Racemes axillary; calyx pilose, calyx teeth narrowly lanceolate, acute; corolla purple, longer than calyx. Pods spiral, sparsely hairy, beaked at apex, with several seeds; seeds reniform, yellow-brown.
2. Native to Turkey, Armenia, Iran, Azerbaijan and other places. Widely cultivated in Eurasia and all over the world. Cultivated or semi-wild throughout China. Born in fields, roadsides, open fields, grasslands, riverbanks and ravines.
