How many people in China know about diet?
Recently, the Journal of Diabetes published a very interesting China paper, which used the largest research sample in history-more than 200 million people in China-to draw the first map of China's eating habits and metabolic diseases.

This research, led by Academician Ning Guang and completed by the team of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, is the first time to explore the relationship between people's living habits and diseases in China by using passive data on the Internet on a large scale.

Compared with the past cohort studies using questionnaires and self-reports, the data on the Internet are more objective, and also accurately reflect the health differences caused by different cooking and taste preferences in different parts of China. There are more hypertension, diabetes and high body mass index (BMI) in areas that love high-temperature cooking, and the risk of diabetes in areas that love spicy food is low.

Over 200 million people! Where did such a large amount of data come from?

This research uses the data of Baidu search engine and take-away platform for 20 16 years, and the total number of participants is 212341708 (more than 200 million13.34 million). Most of the users included are adults under 45 years old, and the total data is younger, but the data of 65-year-old people exceeds 400 thousand, and the researchers corrected the age in the analysis.

"Baidu" Sounds like emmm is not very reliable?

It must be explained here that this study finally compared the disease conclusions calculated from this network data with the national epidemiological survey data in 20 10-20 13, and the results showed that there was no significant difference.

Generally speaking, these data samples provided by Baidu are consistent with medical observation results.

(There is no significant difference in the incidence of diabetes and hypertension predicted by Internet data and the comparison between BMI data and epidemiological survey data.)

The study not only analyzes the different cooking styles and tastes in different parts of the country, but also analyzes the relationship between these tendencies and latitude, temperature and economic development.

These areas love unhealthy cooking! Did you confess at home?

The analysis results show that the areas that love fried and barbecued foods are concentrated in the high latitudes around Beijing and Northeast China, as shown in the following two pictures. The darker the color, the more target foods are consumed in this area.

The areas of frying and barbecuing are concentrated in the high latitudes around Beijing and Northeast China.

On the issue of barbecue, Hainan Province is a special case in the south, and its love for barbecue is no less than that in the northeast, but its love for fried food is not outstanding. In addition, although Guangdong is not as good as Beijing, it also shows its love for frying and barbecue.

In terms of temperature, fried food is more attractive to residents in colder places in winter. From an economic point of view, researchers have observed that the popularity of barbecue is directly proportional to the improvement of economic level.

Disease prediction and actual observation data analysis show that the preference for frying and barbecue will lead to high BMI, high blood pressure and high incidence of diabetes. This triple whammy only appears in fried and barbecue foods.
