Coumarin. The cinnamic acid pathway starts mainly with coumaric acid, a flavonoid derivative synthesized from acetyl coenzyme A. After a series of catalytic reactions, the final product type of the cinnamic acid pathway is coumarin, among others. Cinnamic acid is an organic aromatic acid isolated from benzoin, which has only one substituent on the benzene ring.
