It is said in the Han Dynasty that the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month is the day when Sakyamuni became enlightened. The four heavenly kings came from heaven to the human world and made offerings to each other in gold, silver, glass, agate and other bowls containing eight treasures of rice. World-Honored One, the World-Honored One happily accepted it and merged the four bowls into one. In order to commemorate the Buddha's enlightenment, some Buddhist temples will cook porridge for the Buddha on this day and distribute it to devotees from all over the world. This day (the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month) is also customarily called the "Laba Festival" (or "Magic Weapon Festival").
