Yangjiang is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province, located in the metropolitan area on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary. Yangjiang City was founded in 1988, when Yangjiang County and Yangchun County were separated from Jiangmen City with the approval of the State Council, and a new Yangjiang City was established. Yangjiang has jurisdiction over Yangxi County, Yangdong District and Jiangcheng District, as well as Yang Chun. Yangjiang has also established Hailing Island Economic Development Experimental Zone and Yangjiang High-tech Industrial Development Zone.
