At the 2020 China New Media Conference held in Changsha, Cao Zenghui, senior vice president and editor-in-chief of Sina Weibo, introduced that as the world's largest Chinese social media platform, Weibo currently has 523 million monthly active users and 229 million daily active users. The trend of younger users, sinking regions and vertical classification of content is more obvious. Among them, the population aged 16-30 accounts for 80% of monthly active users, and the population in third-and fourth-tier cities and below exceeds 50%. In terms of content ecology, Weibo has always insisted on platform positioning, which is similar to the role of post office, helping productive people to gain fans and enhance their influence. At present, there are more than 6,543,800 head authors in Weibo, covering 55 vertical fields. The advantage of Weibo is that it forms a diversified value platform for information acquisition, knowledge transmission and opinion exchange through various forms, such as text, pictures, short videos, live broadcasts and voting, and it is also the only platform in the whole network that has influence outside the circle and realizes cross-disciplinary crowd participation.
