The eastern city of Saudi Arabia, Ad Dammām, is the capital of the eastern administrative region. It is adjacent to the west bank of the Gulf, facing the oil port of Rastanura across the sea in the north, and 4 10 km away from the capital Riyadh in the southwest. The population in 2004 was 744,300.
