Wuhan Customs
(Hubei)
1, the customs of seasonal food in Wuhan
☆ December 30th-the most important festival in Wuhan, commonly known as "Chinese New Year". On this day, the whole family got together and had a big reunion dinner. Generally speaking, we should use "three complete" (whole chicken, whole fish and whole duck), "three high" (fish cake, meat pie and mutton cake) and "three bowls" (fish balls, meatballs and lotus root balls) for New Year's Eve dinner. In recent years, people put a hot pot in the middle of the table, which is steaming, adding a festive atmosphere. Dinner time is mostly before dark, but it is also in the evening. Before eating, people light firecrackers outside the door (whips are forbidden now), and then close the door to prepare for dinner. Before everyone sits around the dining table, the old-school people must worship their ancestors and put some bowls and chopsticks to invite them to sit down. After the ancestor worship ceremony, everyone began to eat around the table. Not allowed to eat fish for more than a year in order to pray. The family ate and chatted, laughing and laughing.
☆ Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the first month-every household should fry spring rolls. On the night of the Lantern Festival, people will also make glutinous rice flour and bean paste stuffing into dumplings to wish a smooth and successful year's work. During the Spring Festival, people also eat fried rice cakes with sugar to symbolize the sweetness and high life of the new year.
☆ The third day of the third lunar month-Wuhan citizens go out for an outing, or climb mountains or play in the water. Everyone collects rice and vegetables while playing. On the one hand, they enjoy the natural scenery; on the other hand, they exercise their muscles. When they come back, people use the rice and vegetables they collected. Pancreatic meal? The popularity of refrigerators, iced sodas and iced beer has alleviated people's summer heat and boredom.

☆ September 9th is the Double Ninth Festival-people are used to drinking chrysanthemum wine, eating sweet lotus root with honey juice, sweet potato noodle nest, osmanthus Ciba and so on.
☆ In winter, the weather in Wuhan is cold. In order to supplement calories and nourish the body, people not only eat beef, mutton and dog meat, but also have the habit of simmering soup. Every household has a clay pot for making soup, and Wuhan people often entertain guests with soup. The main ingredients of simmer soup are mostly ribs, chicken, duck and beef. And the auxiliary materials are radish, lotus root, kelp, mushrooms and so on. The yield of radish is the best in Maidiwan, Huangpi County, and the lotus root in Yuehu, Wuhan is also loved by people because of its high starch content.
☆ Wuhan people also have the custom of curing preserved fish and bacon in the twelfth lunar month. At the end of the lunar calendar, there is a red salted fish and bacon hanging on the balcony facing the sun. Fried bacon with vegetable moss is a delicacy on the table of Wuhan people in cold winter.
☆ Wuchang Hongshan red cabbage has good color, fragrance and taste, crisp and refreshing, and rich nutrition. In Hankou Zhi Zhu Ci, the Qing people sang: "There is no need to pay attention to the food list. People have delicious food in winter and moon, rice wine jiaozi is a good midnight snack, and bream is fat and delicious. " Red cabbage moss and Wuchang fish, also known as two famous dishes in Chu township, were rated as "golden palace jade dishes" by the royal family. At that time, Cixi and later sent people to Hongshan Baotong Temple to ask for red cabbage moss to eat.
☆ On the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, Wuhan people used to cook fruit porridge with glutinous rice, red beans and miscellaneous fruits, which was called Laba porridge.
2. Wuhan New Year Customs
☆ New Year's Eve:
Man: You must fill the water tank on this day and ensure that there is water for three days. This is the so-called "endless flow of water, full of children and grandchildren" (with running water, this custom will be abolished invisibly). Then clean up the house, change the Spring Festival couplets and put up the gate. At dusk, the sacrifice to society began. During the Lunar New Year (December 24th), the Kitchen God was invited to "speak well from the sky". On New Year's Eve, the Kitchen God came back and welcomed him to "be lucky underground".
Woman: No matter how busy you are, you must make new shoes for the whole family on this day. This is the so-called "wear new shoes for the New Year (Hai), and happy events come together". Then feed the animals and tell the dogs not to bark, so as not to scare away the god of wealth.
New Year's Eve: first put a whip to exorcise evil spirits, and eat New Year's Eve before dawn. "The more you eat, the smarter you are." Fish should not move chopsticks when eating, but "there should be fish (surplus) every year." In the meantime, the elders give money to the younger generation (today's lucky money is actually a rumor).
Shousui: After the New Year's Eve, the whole family gathered by the fire to have tea and chat. It is said that if you fall asleep before midnight, ghosts will be possessed. When you celebrate your birthday, the lights at home should be on. Every household will set off firecrackers after midnight (flogging is forbidden in Wuhan 1994).
☆ First day:
Listen to the movement: during the fifth watch, birds will dominate the harvest year, and dogs will dominate the chaos.
Look at the sky: the wind is suitable for the north. As the saying goes: "When the north wind blows to the south, you have to bear the burden of no money, and when the north and south blow to the north, you have no money."
Chu Fang: I'm new here, dressed neatly, drinking and worshiping the gods of heaven and earth, and worshiping my elders when I was young. Then you burn your whip and go out to worship the gods. This is the so-called "going out".
