Dehua City Sculpture
As a famous ceramic city in China, Dehua has a glorious history of ceramic manufacturing and export for thousands of years. There has been no city sculpture for a long time. As early as October 1993, during the first China Dehua International Ceramics Festival, celebrities in the ceramics and cultural and historical circles solemnly proposed the need for Dehua city sculptures. After more than ten years of extensive soliciting opinions from people from all walks of life, the "Avalokitesvara Guanyin", a representative work of the Ming Dynasty porcelain saint He Chaozong in Dehua and a national first-class cultural relic collected by the Quanzhou Maritime Museum, was finally selected as the prototype of the city sculpture.
The Dehua large-scale porcelain sculpture "Guanyin Crossing the Sea" has a body height of 7.5 meters and is composed of 137 parts. After firing, it is 6.4 meters high. It uses more than 8 tons of porcelain clay, and the head alone uses half a ton of clay. It is not easy for stone and wood carvings to reach this height. There is no written record of porcelain reaching this height. Due to the huge project, modern grouting methods are not suitable for molding the body of this Guanyin. Therefore, the traditional manual printing method is used to make the body. This results in the thickness of the body within the same part being different, and the thickest part is It reaches 20 centimeters, and the thinnest part is only 3 centimeters. The finished product after firing weighs nearly a hundred kilograms each, which increases the difficulty of firing. The Dehua technology team has applied modern automation technology and specially developed a computer automation control system. Through computer editing, each program time period and temperature target value can be set, and the temperature rise and fall rate can be automatically calculated, run automatically, and the temperature can be raised and cooled at a constant speed, and the sound and light can be automatically reported. Kiln operating status.
It is reported that the "Guanyin Crossing the Sea" has entered the stage of firing ceramic bodies. After it is fired, it will be located in the Porcelain Capital Cultural Square in the center of Dehua City, welcoming visitors from all over the world.
