The history of Ningbo can be traced back to 7 years ago. The excavation of Hemudu site proves that Ningbo is one of the earliest areas where rice was planted in the world. In the Xia Dynasty over 2 BC, the name of Ningbo was Yin, and in the Spring and Autumn Period it was a state of Yue. In the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Yin, Zhi and Juzhang counties in Huiji County, and in the Tang Dynasty it was called Mingzhou.
In 821 AD, Mingzhou Prefecture moved to Sanjiangkou and built an inner city, marking the beginning of Ningbo's city construction. In the 14th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (AD 1381), it was renamed Ningbo with the meaning of "the sea rules Boning", which has been in use ever since. In the 15th year of Qing Shunzhi (1658), Ningshaotai Road was set up in Ningbo.
