Xingtai dialect belongs to the Jilu sub-dialect area of ??the northern dialect area (formerly known as the "Jilu Mandarin area").

Because Xingtai was historically located at the junction of Zhili and Shandong, and there were "enclaves" of two provinces and six counties in between, with complex geography and special customs, Xingtai's dialect has the characteristics of "mixed origins and rich vocabulary".

Although Xingtai is relatively close to Beijing, it is very different from Mandarin in pronunciation and vocabulary, but there is not much difference in grammar.

The pronunciation is close to the dialects of northern and western Shandong, and some words clearly have Shanxi accents.

Regardless of Chinese language experts or "foreigners" who claim to be "China experts", they often feel confused when faced with old farmers who speak eloquent dialect.

The Xingtai dialect and the culture and customs in this area are like pieces of unearthed cultural relics, both "rustic and unfathomable".

There are certain phonetic differences between Xingtai dialect and Mandarin.

For example, it has one less tip-voiced consonant initial r〔r〕 than Mandarin; Xingtai dialect also has one tongue-surface voiced consonant initial〔〕 and one tongue-base voiced consonant initial consonant (ng).
